1.
Students are expected to be in school every day.
It
is recommended that students begin making up days missed after three
absences in a semester in a “Time for Time” setting, to allow flexibility
for emergencies toward the end of the semester. Deadlines for making up days in Time for Time will be Saturday,
December 6, 2003 for the first semester and Saturday, May 8, 2004 for the second
semester. A teacher may hold Time for Time sessions for his/her own
students to help keep students caught up on class work.
Unexcused absences will result in zeroes for all missed work.
To report an absence, please call 592-5408. Leave the following information:
a.
Caller’s name
b.
Student’s name
c.
Date of absence
d.
Brief explanation for the absence.
2.
Excuses for absences must be turned in to the front
office on the first day back to school in order to be valid.
Students who are late or leave early from any class for fifteen minutes
or more are considered absent for that class period.
Any student missing more than five (5) days in a class per semester,
excused or unexcused, will be required to appear before the High
School Attendance Committee with a parent/guardian. The committee will consist of four high school teachers, one
high school administrator and two student government leaders.
If the committee sees justification for these absences then additional
“Time for Time” can be given to make up those absences.
If this committee is not satisfied with the explanation, the student will
not receive credit in the class(es) in which he/she missed in excess of five (5)
days.
3.
Students must have completed work missed during an
excused absence within one (1) day after returning to school.
If more than one class period is missed consecutively, the number of days
allotted will be left up to the discretion of the individual teacher.
All work must be made up outside
the regular class period. This
applies to all excused absences.
4.
Any student who has excessive absences due to
extenuating circumstances may request an Attendance Review Board hearing.
5.
Students will be warned verbally after the third
absence in a nine-week period. Parents
will be notified by telephone and/or letter at this time.
6.
Students will be marked absent from class when the
time missed exceeds 15 minutes. The
third tardy or early dismissal will be considered an absence, which exhibits
lack of participation.
7.
Any day missed during which a student is
representing the school must be approved in advance. The student will be counted present for that day.
8.
Students will be allowed three (3) SDA’s (School
Day Absences) per semester (See SDA).
9.
Any student who has a medical condition that will
require him/her to miss ten (10) or more consecutive days should request
homebound services by contacting the Grundy County Central Office at 692-3467.
