Many jobs and college classes require students to master certain objectives. Some of these objectives have already been met by the time your children have enrolled in high school. It is my job to help each student master these objectives. If at any time during the school year you have any questions about your child’s progress, grades, homework, expectations, etc. please feel free to contact me at 692-5400. Your child will be expected to attend school every day. Attendance in mathematics classes is a must. Your child will also be required to attempt all of their homework and study for all tests. During the course of the year your child will be using a graphing calculator in class, the calculator will enhance the students ability to interpret data from graphs. It is not a requirement for your child to have a graphing calculator at home but if your child continues to go further in mathematics the graphing calculator will be required. Your child will also be required to bring all needed materials to class every day.

In Geometry the following concepts will be taught: points, lines, planes, and angles, reasoning and proofs, perpendicular and parallel lines, identifying and applying congruent triangles, quadrilaterals, proportion and similarity, right triangles and trigonometry, circles, polygons and area, surface area and volume, and coordinate geometry

The grading system will be as follows:

25% Homework

25% Classwork

25% Tests

25% 9-Weeks Test

Homework will be given almost every day and will be checked at least three times a week for a grade. Classwork will consist of quizzes, problems done in class, or any special projects that the students will be spending considerable amounts of class time doing. The students will be given at least one test over each chapter that is completed. All students will also be required to take the 9-Weeks test.

Each student will be required to keep a portfolio for this class. The portfolio will be taken as a test grade one time per nine weeks. The portfolio will have several different sections in it. The different sections will be divided into the following areas:

Classwork/Daily Notes

Homework

Grades Section

Journal Section

(All to be kept in chronological order)

My mission is that every student will leave my class with more understanding and comfort in mathematics. With your help every student can achieve any goal that is put in front of him or her.

Sincerely Mr. Campbell
